These are some old screenshots from Obama's 2010 Get Out the Vote application.
Users were required to connect on Facebook to give the application access to their friends and the ability to post on their wall.
Once in the application users could share their reason for voting but more importantly they could invite friends to vote as well as compete with friends to inspire other people to vote.
Users could share their own message as well as send message to friends asking them to commit to vote.
The American Red Cross asked us to build a similar application model on Obama's very successful Facebook application to help promote and encourage donations.
The idea was simple. Allow users who donated to the Red Cross to claim a badge (and share it on their Facebook wall, the same way Obama's application allowed you to do), share the message (to donate) and inspire friends on Facebook to join the cause.
The badge essentially consisted of a message and icon that users were able to post to the Facebook feed or wall in order to update their status.
In a similar fashion, users were able to share a message direclty with a friend on Facebook.
