This "new feature" has actually been in use for a while, and can be implemented in most of our Facebook applications, and even third party apps, such as Sony Music's Fan Connect/Social Miner FRM suite of tools (from Generator) and certain single-sign-on services (Janrain, Gigya).

We have talked about Facebook notifications in the past (see a list of examples) and have had great success using this feature in gaming and TV network Facebook campaigns. This is our first attempt to bring this powerful messaging functionality into music!

When a user connects with a Facebook application (either directly on Facebook or using Facebook Connect) they give that application permission to send them notifications. Our album notification feature leverages this permission to let fans know when new music (such as a single or an album) is available from the artist. We link the notifications directly to our Facebook album page, which looks something like the example below (but can be customized for any album, single, or music label). Options include additional sharing features and the ability to include other albums from the same or different artists.
