140 Character Capacity on Twitter Will Not Include Links or Photos

twitter

What was the Problem
Twitter's 140 character limit in the past has unfortunately included both links and more importantly photos.  Although Twitter automatically shortens links, these shortened links still take up 23 characters. This only allows you to generate a short promotional sentence.  Photos reduced the character limit even further, sometimes up to 20 characters!

Since our photo booth applications are sharable on Twitter, clients were forced to shorten their twitter messages to as few as 100 characters!

What is Changing and Why
The days of having to limit and cram the amount of information per post may be close to an end! In the near future Twitter will not include links and photos as part of the 140 character limit.  Decisions were made by Twitter to ultimately increase revenue. With photos and links not included in the 140 count, Twitter will have a leverage to sell more ads because the character capacity applies to promoted tweets as well as normal tweets. Since lately many advertisers have taken their dollars to other social media platforms, pleasing clients, such as artists and labels, is a key concern of Twitter.

What this Means for Metablocks Clients
Presumably, Twitter is depending on artists, one of the primary used social media channels, for sharing photos and meme generations from our photo booth and meme generator. The change in Twitter's policy allows our clients, and in some cases users, to craft and share longer and more meaningful marketing messages on the Twitter platform.
