There may certainly be a contraction within the field commensurate with what's happening in the economy at large, but lest we not forget the companies that have been profitable since day one, devoid of any VC or angel funding. We had earnings growth of 160% in fiscal 2008...not exactly a harbinger of bad things to come. (Did I really just use the word "harbinger?" Now I have to look it up!) 2009 the Year of the Widget Fallout?
